What is a tankless water heater, anyway?

Tankless water heaters are also known as on-demand water heaters. As you might expect, the name itself provides insight into what a tankless water heater actually is. Tankless water heaters, unlike conventional water heaters, do not have large tanks of water. Instead, they heat the water only when there is demand for it.

What are the  benefits of tankless water heaters over tanks?

Only use gas and electricity when needed

When you turn on hot water, the tankless water heater draws in water directly from your home’s pipes. Once inside of the unit, this water is heated by gas. Conventional water heaters, fill a large tank with water and then heat the water – regardless of whether or not anyone is using it. These types of water heaters are still in use and might be suited for some applications, but they are much less energy efficient and run out of hot water in just a few minutes compared to tankless water heaters that can supply you endless hot water efficiently.

Here is what you should expect during a tankless water heater installation: 

1. Our licensed installer will first pick the best spot to install your new tankless water heater where gas, water and drain are available and venting it out will be no problem.
2. He has to turn off the water, gas, and electricity that were going to your old tank.
3. Drain, disconnect & remove the old hot water tank.
4. Install a new larger gas line (and a new tee and valve if necessary) to the location of the new tankless water heater.
5. Install the new larger water lines.
6. Install  a wooden frame so the new water heater can be mounted on.
7. Connect the heater to your new water and gas lines.
8. Install the special venting & terminate it outside according to the gas code in Ontario
9. Turn on the water heater & start commissioning procedure
